    Astoria Oregon fishing is simply some of the best sturgeon fishing, salmon fishing found anywhere. Astoria located in the far Northwest corner of Oregon is where the Columbia River flows into the Pacific Ocean. Being the oldest city west of the Mississippi the area is rich in history with many sites to see. The Columbia river estuary has huge runs of salmon both King salmon (Chinook salmon) and Coho salmon (Silver salmon) that enter the river in beginning in August. This salmon fishing season known at "Buoy 10" is world famous for limits of salmon. Many families make it an annual fishing trip vacation. Astoria is also home to world class keeper sturgeon fishing in the Columbia river estuary. The sturgeon congregate here from mid May to August feeding on abundant bait fish, shrimp and clams. Limits of sturgeon are very common here and most sturgeon fishing takes place with light tackle in shallow water and is an absolute blast. The sturgeon fishing here is also very popular and very productive. Astoria is also home to a large ocean fishing charter fleet offering tuna fishing, halibut fishing, ocean salmon fishing trips and bottom fishing charters. The local area offers many attractions and recreation opportunities for the family as well. The coast guard maritime museum is a must see as is the Astoria Column, Fort Stevens state park, Fort Clatsop and the many area beaches.
